When I first stumbled upon Shaz and Kiks, an Ayurvedic-inspired Indian hair care brand in the Western world, I was so excited. As someone always looking for sustainable and AAPI-founded hair care brands, I could not wait to try out their products. Here is my candid review of the products from Shaz and Kiks that I experimented with on my hair.

Scalp+Hair Prewash
Starting with the pre-wash treatment designed for thin, fine hair, I must admit, it didn’t quite win me over. While the scent was pleasant and the concept intriguing, the product itself fell short for me. I found myself using a ton of products to saturate my hair, which felt wasteful. The thick consistency made it difficult to spread and pulled at my strands.
The grainy texture didn’t seem to agree with my fine strands, and the cream-colored residue left my hair feeling stiff and crusted. Despite experimenting with different application methods, including dampening my hair and warming up the product, I couldn’t find a technique that worked seamlessly. I still think it’s an amazing product and would definitely recommend giving it a try. The product itself has amazing hair care benefits. Plus, I think it is amazing that they are bringing a new product type to the industry.
Overall, did not love this product. I think I just prefer a good hair oil or other conditioning treatment without the granules. Call me traditional in that sense. I wanted to love this product from Shaz and Kiks with all its amazing nutrients and benefits, but it just did not work for me.
Balancing Clay Hair Cleanser
Moving on to the shampoo, this was my first time using a waterless shampoo formula. The scent and color were delightful, enhancing the sensory experience of my hair care routine. It takes time to understand the right amount of product to use because a little can go a long way, but the formula itself lathered well and did a good job of cleaning my greasy roots.
I will say if you put oil in your hair it might be better to first use a detox shampoo before using this, but on a regular hair wash day, this did a great job at double shampooing. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the granules in here either, but did not mind it as much.
Overall, I think this is a great product from Shaz and Kiks that provides amazing nutrients for the hair while still being sustainable. Plus the product smells amazing and looks great in the shower! I would definitely repurchase.
Nourishing Naram Conditioner
The conditioner, unsurprisingly, was the easiest to incorporate into my routine. With a pleasant scent and a lighter texture compared to traditional hair masks, it left my hair feeling nourished without weighing it down excessively.
This left my hair feeling soft and silky while also reducing the post wash tangles. I enjoyed this product overall, and I would repurchase the shampoo and conditioner set again in the future from Shaz and Kiks.
Rice+Chai Refresh Spray
Now, onto the post-wash spray, a product that left me scratching my head. Despite trying a lot of different hair products in the past, I couldn’t quite figure out how to get the benefits of this product. While I appreciated the concept and the quality of the ingredients, it seemed to leave a strange residue on my already greasy hair, rather than effectively refreshing it.
I think it might be better suited for drier hair types as a mid-day pick-me-up. Unfortunately, my greasy hair was always left looking worse than it did before. The scent is heavenly though.
Final Thoughts
Shaz and Kiks is a great middle luxury brand that has some gems. The packaging, with its charming aesthetic, adds to the overall appeal of the brand, in my opinion. I also love repurposing the packaging, which I use to travel with my shampoo and conditioner bars. Plus, the outer shell packaging is great for storing brushes or lipsticks.
While I may not love every product I tried, I certainly found gems worth repurchasing. I recommend at least trying the Shaz and Kiks brand if you are interested because they have some great innovative products that uplift the hair care experience.
With love,
