Whether you are part of the corporate girl persona or not, we can all admit that sometimes we are trying to look more put together. Being put together can mean a lot of different things, but in this case, we are relating it to feeling confident, looking confident, and conveying that we have it all figured out. In this blog post, I will walk you through five really easy ways you can boost your appearance to look put together and more professional.
Keep Your Hair Manageable
Hair is often the first thing that people tend to see. If all else fails, you will literally look more put together simply by having your hair look good. Obviously we can’t expect a good hair day every day, but here are some ways that can help keep your hair looking presentable.
For straighter, finer hair types, make sure your hair is brushed. You can go for the messy, tousled waves but make sure it doesn’t look like you just got out of bed.
For coarser, curlier hair types, generally, the more defined you can make your curls the more it looks like you put time into it. So if your curls are falling flat, try to spice them up again
We want to keep our hair looking healthy and shiny, but not greasy. If you need to stretch it another day, add some dry shampoo or go for a slicked-back hairstyle if nothing else is working. This is the best way to make that greasy hair look intentional rather than looking like you did not have time to wash it.
Keep Your Clothes in Good Condition
People tend to notice clothes pretty fast. By making sure your outfit is wrinkle-free and vibrant, you will look more out together. Avoid faded or stretched-out fabrics. You want to pick items where the fabric still looks rich. Invest in a steamer or iron if you own wrinkly clothes that could use some help.
My favorite way to prolong my go-to pieces is by using a lint shaver. These are relatively cheap and can give your clothes a new life. If you notice your pants or sweaters have a lot of pilling on them, take the time to use a lint shaver.
This will show that you put time and effort into keeping your clothes in good condition, hence, you will appear and look more put together.
Makeup That Enhances Your Feature
You probably love playing around with makeup as much as I do, but when it comes to looking more professional and put together, it is probably best to wear makeup that enhances your features. I love playing up the mascara and a natural blush shade to bring attention to my eyes and cheekbone. Think about the features you want to enhance and apply makeup there. Keeping the makeup simple, but complete, can help boost your appearance. When trying to look professional, avoid bold eyeliner or eyeshadow looks, although definitely still have fun with them.
Match Your Bag and Shoes
Just like men typically match their belts to their shoes for professional looks, try matching your bag and shoes. Invest in neutral colors like cream, brown, or black, that will go with every outfit. This is a simple hack that can make you look put together within seconds. By keeping the shoes and bag in the same color family, you tie the whole look together, even if you are wearing multiple bright colors everywhere else. Try this out and let me know what you think!
Dress for Success
This is an obvious one but dress in clothes that make you feel confident. If you are into athleisure, pick well-fitting clothes that make you feel good when you put them on. The same goes for work wear. Get pants that hug your curves and are just the right length. Get tops that suit your style and age. Try a blazer! By simply wearing clothes you feel good in and that match your style, you will look put together. Even if you take the sweatpants route, make it look intentional rather than like your pajamas.
It is all about how you wear the clothes and if you make it look like you put the time into creating an outfit rather than throwing on clothes. If in a pinch, go for neutral colors all around, or just one pop of color. This way you know all the pieces work with one another. I also love creating outfits with different shades of the same color for a monochromatic look.
Final Thoughts
Everyone has a natural beauty about them. Sometimes it just takes a little effort to realize what makes us feel confident and how to play to that strength. I hope these simple ways to look more put together were helpful and that there is a tip you can try to implement. Let me know in the comments below if there are any other tips I did not mention!
