The Earthling Co has become popular recently for its sustainable hair care and body care items. But, do the products actually work? I tested the Earthling Co shampoo and conditioner bars on my fine, straight hair, and I have some things to say. In today’s blog post, I will share my review of the Earthling Co products I have tried and give you my unbiased opinion.
First, I think the brand is amazing for creating plastic-free sustainable hair care products that are exciting and easy to use. I stumbled upon these products and appreciated the affordable price point, so I knew I had to try them. Even just alone, the bars are each less than $20 but you can get even more insane value through their coupons, bundles, and sets.
As mentioned above, my hair type is straight, fine hair, that is relatively dense. I get greasy hair pretty quickly and tend to wash my hair every 2-3 days. I alternate my hair washes between regular washes and deep cleaning washes since I do an oil treatment once a week.
I tested out the sweet sandalwood scent and love love love the smell of it.
The Earthling Co Shampoo Bar
oh man, oh man, I am excited to talk about this one. I tried some shampoo and conditioner bars years ago, and have dipped into the waterless shampoo world since then. And my god is this amazing.
First off, I love the size of the bars. They are easy to hold in your hands and lather up without being too bulky. The shampoo bars lather up so easily, and a little product goes a long way.
Like any shampoo, I need a bit more product on the first cleanse to get the foaming action going, but on the second cleanse, I feel like one swipe gives me more product than I need. The foaming action on these Earthling Co shampoo bars is insane. Especially because they are SLS and paraben-free.
The shampoo bar lasts forever, I think I have been using it for well over 8 months now, and even with oil treatments and deep cleans, this thing does its job. You get a ton of products in here. The site claims that it will last 50-75 washes, but honestly, I feel like I have washed my hair more.
Now, how well does the Earthling Co shampoo bar cleanse? Very well. Of course, if you do a deep oil treatment it may take 3-4 washes to get all the oil out because the cleansing agents are not very harsh in the bar. However, for my usual, no-fuss, wash days, this works miracles on both the first and second shampoo.
My hair feels clean but not overstripped. On oil treatment days, I typically use a clarifying shampoo for the first wash and this bar for the second wash. All good things here, it works well.
The way I use it most often is by rubbing the bar in my hands to dispense the product and then rubbing my hands together to create a good lather. On hair oiling days or extra dirty hair, I will sometimes gently rub the shampoo bar on my scalp directly to dispense more product.
Overall, highly recommend it.
The Earthling Co Conditioner Bar
Now for the Earthling Co conditioner bar. This is also a great travel-friendly product. Overall, I love the price point, and I think it is a great product. However, I had a few more issues with this one.
First, it is much harder to get the product on your hands. Because it is a creamy conditioner, you have to work the bar in between your hands to get enough product, especially if you have longer hair. I found myself conditioning twice sometimes because my hair didn’t feel like it got enough conditioner the first time around. However, when you do get enough product it leaves your hair feeling silky soft and smooth.
Through some trial and error, I found that gently rubbing the Earthling Co conditioner bar on my hair strands did the most. It was the easiest way to get enough product and make my hair feel soft. Because it’s all conditioning ingredients, the bar can be slippery so just be careful on that front.
Because I tend to use my shampoos quicker, I use the conditioner bar as a shaving conditioner as well. It works well to soften the hair and skin and makes shaving a breeze. So although not the initial intent, I think it works well for conditioning the hair and body.
Overall, I recommend the product, especially if you like traveling with your hair care. I think there are more conditioning products out there, but this is still a great everyday-use one.
The Wooden Tray
I bought the tray to house my Earthling Co shampoo and conditioner bars, and I am very happy I did. After almost a year, no mold or grossness has accumulated even though the tray lives in my shower. It doesn’t accumulate or sit in water which is great for preserving the bars and the amount of uses you get out of them.
You can of course find an alternative to this, but I am very happy with the fact I bought it. Plus, I like how my bars look on top of the tray.
The Earthling Co Dry Shampoo
I prefer non-aerosol dry shampoos because they last longer, are better for the environment, and are most cost-effective. I was really excited about the Earthling Co dry shampoo because of its clean ingredients and sustainable packaging. Unfortunately, this one was a bit of a disappointment to me.
I think the dispensing of the dry shampoo is all good and fine. It can be a bit messy sometimes but nothing that really bothered me. The issue I fell into was that I felt it didn’t absorb oil well enough for me to feel like it was worth adding the dry shampoo. It felt like the powder just sat on my scalp rather than really absorbing excess oil.
Also, I found it to be a bit drying on my scalp. I feel like it often gave me dandruff and flakiness. Like I said, I felt like it just sat there. I could feel the product on my scalp and if I scratched my scalp, I would get the powder stuck under my fingertips so I was not loving this. I also did not love the scent of the Earthling Co dry shampoo.
Lastly, I don’t think it blended in well with my black hair or gave me volume. I always felt that there was a greyish-brownish cast from the powder, even the one for dark hair. As someone with flatter hair, I rely on my dry shampoo for some volume on day 2 or 3 hair and this just was not giving it.
Therefore, I do not recommend this product for my hair color and type.
The Wooden Comb
This was an on-the-whimb purchase because I wanted a wide-tooth comb. However, I was not the biggest fan of the Earthling Co comb. The wood just felt cheap, and the comb felt cheaply made. I feel like my hair snagged on it and the edges of the wood were not smooth. I have a smaller wooden comb from Fable and Mane and much prefer that one. This just felt like a last-minute thought, unfortunately.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I think you should check out the Earthling Co if you have been thinking about trying out the brand. The Earthling Co shampoo bars are amazing, and their conditioner bars are a good runner-up. The travel-friendly aspect of them has also been a game-changer for me. I have yet to try more products from the Earthling Co, but it is a brand I definitely recommend.
I hope you found this helpful, and leave me a comment if you did!
