Skincare, makeup, and hair care can get expensive pretty quickly. Especially in this economy, prices for products have soared. It’s more crucial than ever to think about saving money when buying beauty products. I never buy full-price items anymore. So in this post, I’ll walk you through the best ways to save money on beauty when it comes to your next purchase.
Wait for Sales
One of the best ways to save money on beauty is to wait for sales. A few times a year, Sephora and Ulta have major events where you can save 20-50% off items. This is the best time to save money on beauty and stock up on your favorites.
Suppose you’re buying drugstore items, and stack sales at places like Target where they have a partnership with Ulta. You get the best bang for your buck at these times.
Look for Free Gifts
Sometimes making a purchase, especially at Ulta, comes with a gift. These sample gifts usually contain products I love or want to try meaning I save money on beauty by not purchasing sample sizes. Usually, I’m buying a moisturizer on sale, and a cleanser will end up being free. Plus, these free samples are great to travel with.
Use Those Coupons
Ulta and Sephora have plenty of saving events so there’s no need to buy full-price items. In the drugstore, you get the usual $3.50 off $15 or even $15 off $50 coupons at Ulta. A few times a year, they’ll send a 20% coupon that works on prestigious items as well. This is the best time to buy because you save money on beauty products while also racking up points.

Don’t Pay for Shipping
You’ll be surprised by how many people pay for shipping when their order is less than the minimum requirement. I personally never pay for shipping. If shipping is $7, you might as well get a product that is equal to that amount. Otherwise, do an in-store pickup or wait till you have more in your cart. It’s surprising how much money you save on beauty by such avoiding shipping and handling costs.
Check out the Ingredients
This is not a sale or coupon way to save money on beauty products, but when buying skincare or hair care products, check the ingredients. Often, you’ll find the first 5-6 ingredients listed on a drugstore versus high-end product to be about the same. This is because many brands come from the same manufacturer. Often, but not always, the higher price tag is for the brand rather than the product. Make sure you are getting your money’s worth and try the drugstore item if the products seem similar.

Wait for the Holidays
If you can, I also wait to restock my beauty products until the holiday season. This is the best time to get the most value out of your spending. Black Friday sales can be gimmicky, but sometimes, they are worth it. Deals like “buy one, get one free” are no-brainers when it comes to saving money on beauty products.
Plus, many gift sets can be worth high value. You have to pay close attention, but in holiday sets you can find a full-size moisturizer and cleanser for the price of one. Maybe an entire full-size skincare routine is half the price, or you get a few blushes for a better price. Holiday gift sets are worth your money when you are paying less than the actual value.
Collect Loyalty Points
Every time you make a purchase you can earn points at places like Sephora, Ulta, and Credo Beauty. These can be redeemed for samples or money off. Many times a year there are offers for 5x on purchases, so the points can add up quickly.
For Ulta, the best time to redeem points is with a 20% coupon and 2,000 points. You get the most value here. This method lets be get a luxury perfume for less than $10 sometimes.
Sephora allows you to take $10 off using 500 points, but you might be better off redeeming a 500-point award if it is worth more. Loyalty points are an excellent way to save money on beauty products.
