Healthy hair starts while you are sleeping. Our scalp ages faster than our skin, and our hair strands come into a lot of friction while we sleep. So, it’s extra important to care for your hair in the evenings. In this blog post we’ll walk through a simple nightly hair care routine you can do at night for strong, healthy hair. It takes less than 10 minutes!

Give Your Scalp a Massage
Blood circulation is so important for hair growth and healthy hair. Giving your scalp a quick 5-minute massage will help get the blood flowing, especially to the crown of your head which gets the least amount of circulation. Use your fingers for a gentle massage or try a scalp scrubber if you have oiler hair. Apply medium pressure, massage, then lift and go to another spot. This should be the first step for healthy hair in your nightly hair care routine.

Brush Out Your Hair
Brushing your hair provides another gentle massage to your scalp. It also helps distribute the oils on your scalp and lifts any product build-up around the hair follicles. This is incredibly important for healthy hair. If the hair follicle is clogged with product build-up, new hair growth will be thinner and more fragile. Take an extra 30 seconds in your daily hair care routine at night to just brush your hair. It’ll leave it shinier and healthier over time.
Add in a Scalp Serum
This isn’t a necessary step, but if you feel that you have a drier scalp, adding a scalp serum at night can help with your scalp health. Scalp serums help hydrate a dry, itchy, or irritated scalp which can get inflamed from over shampooing or even just the environment. If you find your scalp constantly irritated, try this in your daily hair care routine for healthy hair.
Moisturize the Ends
If you have long hair, you might find that your hair strands are dry or frizzy. While your scalp is producing oils, it doesn’t always reach the tips of your hair. By adding a touch of hair oil or leave-in conditioner at night, you’ll keep your strands healthy and soft. Be careful not to use too much, but try this healthy hair hack in your daily hair care routine if your strands look like they could use some nourishment.

Sleep in a Protective Hairstyle
Hair looks healthiest when it is shiny and frizz-free. The best way to achieve this is through moisturizing your hair strands and avoiding breakage. The most breakage in our hair can often happen at night because of the friction against our pillow. To prevent this, sleep in loose protective hairstyles. Two of my favorites are a French braid or low bun. Use a satin or silk scrunchie for even less tension. Reducing tension and friction on the strands protects your healthy hair from breakage. Take this as the last step of your nightly hair care routine.
Final Thoughts
I hope you found this quick and simple daily hair care routine helpful! This nightly care has helped my hair grow long and strong while reducing breakage. Cheers to healthy hair!
