Having fine flat hair can be a struggle at times, especially when it feels like you need to wash it every other day. Your hair either looks flat after just a few hours, or it feels greasy within a day. As someone with fine flat hair myself that gets greasy rather quickly, I have got you covered. In this blog post, we’ll go over some must-know tips for going a few more days in between wash days with that fine flat hair.

Wash Your Brushes
If your hair feels flatter than normal, or even greasier than normal, try washing your hair brushes. All the extra oils, product build-up, and dust, can weigh down your fine flat hair. Washing your hair brushes can help you go longer between washes.

Brush Your Hair Upside Down
One of my favorite hacks for fine flat hair in a pinch is to brush your strands with your hair flipped over. This lets you distribute the oils from your scalp to your strands better. Plus, it will give you instant volume. Try out this hack if you need a quick root lift.
Oil Your Hair
This one seems counterintuitive, but if you have fine flat hair, you’ll want to try this. Oiling your hair promotes hair growth which can help with your hair looking fuller over time. Plus, by letting your hair soak in the deep conditioning oils, it signals to your scalp that it doesn’t need to produce as much oil. It’s the same idea we use for oil cleansing in our skincare. Try this once a week as a long-term treatment for healthy and happy hair.

Blow Dry Your Hair
Not only does blow drying my hair let me go longer between washes, but it also helps give some much-needed volume to my fine flat hair. The trick is to blow dry once your hair is about 50% dry to avoid unnecessary heat damage. Use a lower heat setting and make sure your dryer is at least six inches away from your strands.
Either blow dry in the opposite direction that your hair falls or flip your hair and blow dry. This causes your hair to dry in a redirected way, meaning you’ll have an instant volume that’ll last a while. This a great tip for going longer between hair wash days and getting lasting volume.
Sleep in Hairstyles
Sleeping is the best time to give your fine flat hair a little TLC so it can last another day. Sleeping in braids gives my hair some texture and wave that can make it look fuller for a day. Another hairstyle is sleeping in a bun for a quick blowout look in the morning.
If you have the time and patience, you can try heatless curls as well. Styling your hair differently than the usual straight hair look can help give some volume to your fine flat hair. It also gives the oils something to hold on to.
